Everyone has a “base theme” of sorts, which dictates or indicates how they are living their life. To some this base theme is corruption or power, perhaps money or success, and to a very few it’s love, servitude or perhaps evolution and expansion. To me, my life’s theme is freedom. It’s the base energy of my birth name, it’s my fall-back word when I feel pressured or in a pinch needing to make a decision fast:
“What gives me and the other person(s) the most freedom?”
This question is always at my heart and always in my mind. Let’s face it, our soul carrying the divine Spirit has come forth in a world of duality, hence, why it’s good sometimes to write out words:
It is literally Spirit having come forth in a world of masculine and feminine energies, manifesting itself as a seeming whole. In the big picture then our soul and spirit are not free – on the contrary – we are actually imprisoned in this body. And until we shed this body, our job here is to learn to first integrate spirit with this material world and then let go of the material world once again (including the body). This doesn’t happen automatically, it’s an arduous journey up the ladder of our chakras, getting to a place of making wise and discerning choices for not only our bodies, but especially for our soul and spirit. And so the journey in the body is the journey up the tree of life, up from chakra one to chakra seven and beyond. Most people will never rise above chakras one and two, constantly letting their sense-oriented urges and gluttony of the physical pleasures be thing that pulls them back down to the materialistic world of illusory pleasure. What a prison it can be indeed.
Thinking Long Term – Beyond This Life
This is why I am dedicated to the evolution of your soul – because sooner or later you will shed this body and everything that comes with this materialistic world, including your money, your clothes, your toys and belongings, even your reputation and finally, even your name. And what remains for you is the memories of what you did with your life while you were in this body, along with your soul and the divine spark of Spirit. And with those memories you will move on to knit once again your next body in your next life and the one after that, and the one after that, and so on.
Staying Grounded and Practical – In This Life
All right now – back to this reality! What about this life?
Is there a way to feel free and be free? What does it even mean to you?
Freedom doesn’t mean the same to everyone. To a woman trapped in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship, freedom means to not have to be scared of whether or not her husband is coming through the door at night angry and ready to beat her and her children. To the man or woman who has just lost his family, business, livelihood and reputation, and is left with a six- or seven-figure hole in his bank account, freedom means financial freedom.
We Priceless Gift of Freedom
Whether you’re looking for financial, emotional, mental or physical freedom – we all need it and want it. Freedom is essential in our unfolding. Without it we remain trapped and stifled in Pandora’s box. Open the lid, crawl out and then throw away the box entirely.
Freedom means different things to different people at different points in their lives.
What does freedom mean to you?
For me, I used to not feel grounded or tied to this world and knew I didn’t belong here. I often felt like I took a wrong turn coming through the wormhole. Of course I didn’t. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. But it used to cause me stress to be here and to have to live in this slow moving body and I felt like this body and everything around me was moving like molasses. My mind and my visions were in other realities and dimension, talking to non-hue-man beings and I couldn’t figure out how to get my body “over there” to those realities where things move much quicker and without the burden of a slow moving body. Eventually I made peace with the fact that my whole job here is to integrate the non-physical with the physical and to find my freedom while being in this physical body. It’s an attuning of the mind to spirit in this slow moving reality. Exercises like meditation and “walking Vipassana” all help in remaining grounded, practical and fully present on this plane. It’s a beautiful world to find freedom within the body. It’s also a glorious moment when the soul can kick off this body like a shoe that has become too tight when it’s time to move on.
Choose Your Primary Theme
But until then…How do we live in these vessels feeling free? Working free? Speaking free? Communicating free? Developing free? Evolving free? Loving free? Succeeding free?
Given that my life’s theme (at least this time around) is freedom, everything I do always defaults to this core value. Yours may be success or money or health or love. Whatever it is, it’s important that you figure out what your default theme is. This is what you revert back to when you are stressed.
Here are a few words that my coaching clients have used as their default theme:
- Financial Success
There are many more. Find your own! It’s important that you find your default theme because this is the ocean into which you bathe your soul when you feel cornered. This is the fuel that drives you!
The sooner you can find your ocean of rejuvenation, strength and power, the sooner you have the foundation upon which you build everything else. Whether it’s business, family life, your friendships, even your diet!
Choosing Your Second Theme
Again, for me it’s FREEDOM. My second runner up is WISDOM and DISCERNMENT. Wisdom is the base ‘noun’ and discernment is the action thereof. Much like there is love, with kindness being “love in action.”
What is your secondary runner up theme?
I have a little formula by which I measure whether or not something falls under my main theme, which is freedom:
I work when I want to, with whomever I want to, whenever I want to, from wherever I want to. What I do should never feel like a burden; I must remain authentic. My gift to share with the world has to contribute to society 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Not just Monday through Friday during office hours. It makes no spiritual common sense to me at all (in my field of work) for me to only get paid when I show up during certain hours. Such a concept seems so ancient and contradictory to me, especially with today’s technology. In other words, words like ‘passive income,’ ‘multiple streams of income,’ ‘auto-pilot,’ ‘earn while you sleep‘ – all these are a part of my journey of freedom.
What about you? What baseline do you want to create that would authentically represent your life’s main theme?
What about your secondary themes?
Working With Your Secondary Themes
For me, to use wisdom and discernment means that I have to be alert, attentive, fully here in the ‘now‘ and constantly seeing and weighing all sides. To me this means to stay neutral and unattached, taking no side but remain at the center of Source itself, which holds the measuring stick (the equilibrium) that brings all things into balance. The sooner I can get to the center point of the equilibrium itself, the sooner I get to my point of freedom.
I use these techniques for myself and others. This means observation over judgment. In fact, judgment has no business in my life. It’s a complete waste of time and only hinders my venture to live by freedom. Observation on the other hand, is the having the ability to step back and detach, review history and to pre-calculate the future based on all those tools we are given (reasoning and free will). Judgement is generally reactive, rarely responsive.
Now it’s your turn. Look at your list of your main theme, secondary themes (2-3 at the most, don’t overwhelm yourself). You will find that when you look back at your life, you will have made most of your decisions from these 2-3 themes. Your theme may be victimhood, hurt, disappointment, trauma, sadness, etc.. If these are your main themes, then your life may have been frothed with failure after failure, revenge, anger, hatred, drama and gossip, cheaters and back stabbers. Yes? No?
Life is Unfair – Opportunities Are Plentiful
Life is not fair, we were never promised that it would be so. Life does, however, present us with plenty of opportunities to grow. That’s what life is all about. You grow (or shrink) because of the choices you make every time you are presented with an opportunity. The power to react or respond is with you, always with you. Sometimes we have to choose the lesser of two evils and then course-re-direct later, after painful lessons have been learned. What’s important is that you learn your lessons, sooner rather than later. Otherwise the lessons will simply reappear in your life, different people, same lessons, until you “get it.” The choice about how long you want to suffer from your choices is yours alone.
Given that freedom is my main theme, I measure everything against this powerful energy. When new people and opportunities come into my life, I quickly do a ‘scan’ to see if this is about freedom or restriction. If I sense restriction, now or later, I say “thanks but no thanks.” This applies to business opportunities, exit strategies, relationships, real estate, friendships, etc.
Only you can observe your life and take inventory of where you’ve been, where you are and then you have the choice to decide where you want to go.
Moving Half Way Across the World
I have decided to move half way across the world once again. I’ve lived in half a dozen countries and I speak half a dozen languages. I love, love, love other cultures and languages. I learn so much about people and the human journey by immersing myself in a culture other than my own. Again, to me this spells freedom. I love pushing myself into my own discomfort zone by going into a country and not speak the language. Yes, it can make for interesting and often times frustrating interactions. For example, in 1989 I moved to the U.S. with two suitcases and $500 in my pocket, speaking no English. I learned English by refusing to speak anything other than English, by taking 3 hours of English classes per day and then watching Oprah and other shows to practice even more English listening skills. I was also a nanny to a 7 year old, even more English speaking opportunities! In 6 months I dreamt in English for the first time. I was very excited about that because I knew the language had “clicked in.”
In a couple of weeks I’ll be flying into Italy and then visit some friends and family in Italy, Switzerland and France, where I’ll end up staying for a few months. I have a personal and spiritual pilgrimage to walk, which is taking me to a small Medieval town on the French Riviera. This town is put together entirely by cobblestones and hasn’t changed in hundreds of years. It was once the home of the Knights Templars and features a history that contains a lot of interesting energies for me to integrate. I will be writing about it here in my blog. Make sure you sign up for my newsletter so you will get updated.
How Free Are You?
In the past few weeks as I am preparing for my trip, I’ve had at least a dozen people tell me: “Oh, you’re so lucky. I wish I could just take off for a few months and go to Europe.”
“Why don’t you?” I ask.
“I need this job,” is usually the answer.
In other words, their life is not set up to give them the freedom their hearts so long for. It shouldn’t be this way. I left the corporate world more than 12 years ago and I’ve been traveling the world for decades. I’ve known for a long time that I don’t want to trade my time for money. This theme of setting my work on auto-pilot is at the base of how I create my work. I can work from anywhere on the planet for as long as I have internet. And even if I don’t have internet, as long as I have a computer I can create a product, a course, a workshop, a webinar and even if I don’t have a computer, I can at minimum create a teleseminar, and then later post it for my audience to enjoy and benefit from for years to come.
You too have a wealth of information to share. The technology exists, the how-to exists, all that’s missing is you making the first step. Share your gift with the world! You have wisdom to share and the world is ready for you – NOW. Not when you have money or when you are retired or when your children are off to college or when you have left a dead-end marriage. No, NOW!
Now it’s your turn. What do you want to create? What are your life’s themes? How can you restructure your life to achieve freedom, if that’s what you want?
Take out a notepad and look back on your life. What’s the motivating energetic force that keeps driving you? Especially during those moments when you feel everything around you cave in on you?
Write down that word.
Then find your 2nd and 3rd base themes. Often times these are the tools to which you resort to in an effort to satisfy your first main theme.
Write it down.
Then compare your life as it is right now to the 2-3 words you have chosen as your life’s theme. Are you on track? What’s missing? What’s in excess and ready to be let go of? Something material? A person? A home or anything else?
Now create a plan on how to readjust your current life to align authentically with your life’s main theme. This is a tactical and strategic plan and may take you a few weeks, months or even a few years, depending on how “big” some of the items are that need reshuffling.
Get help, get support, and let go of all and everyone else that is non-supportive of your heart’s desire. Do make sure that you don’t just toss people out of your life. No one deserves that. Burning bridges is never a good idea and friends and family are always a two-way street. You may feel that you’ve outlived them, but have they learned from you everything you’ve come into their life for? If not, finish your sacred contract with them and give them what they need to achieve what they have come here for. Don’t just leave them. Doing so only creates a new lifetime with them that you later have to finish up. Do it now instead…
Good luck and let me know how it’s going!
